52: 13 Sep 2024 Golden eagle!
Location: Bowscale fell

Golden eagle sighted from Carrock fell summit, seemed to be hunting/scouting north facing face of bowscale fell around bowscale tarn then heading west towards rave craggs. Seemed interested in the sheep on the fell side! My first ever eagle spot in England!

About the size of a pigeon but a bit smaller and more slightly built, darker plumage, with distinctive broad white stripe across tail feathers. Runs,not like the waddle of a pigeon. Legs pinkish? Seen at a distance of 50 m, pecking at lawns in front gardens about 7 am yesterday and today, with pigeons.

About 60 pink footed geese, flying very high heading south, seen about 7.30am, North wind helping them.

About 70 flying high, heading up the Matterdale valley, seen in the evening. north wind behind them.

Location: Lancaster Canal, Holme

Cetti’s warbler heard singing on several occasions from aquatic marginal vegetation along the Lancaster Canal at Holme village, at the crossing of Sheernest Lane.
