523: 12 Oct 2023 Brisk Morning Walk with a surprise – Short Eared Owl
Location: Shap
Name: Silversteen Graham
Was on my morning walk this morning with Luba (our dog) and looked over the moorland where I spotted a Short Eared Owl, I knew it was one straight away from the yellowy brown colour on it’s top side and the distinct dark circles around its yellow eyes, I normally just carry on walking but this was a sight to be seen. I gave my wife (Julie) a call and she was straight down with the binoculars, we’ve watched it low level for about 30 minutes hunting vole. We will hopefully see some more coming out now it’s getting chillier!
