Great egret present briefly on north side of River Derwent, to the south of Old Bridge.

2pm Raucous flock of crossbills (min. count 14) seen feeding high in the spruces. Cones raining down. Males & females seen clearly with bins. 1 seen flying with a cone in its bill which I’ve never seen before. They do tend to stay in the same area for several days.
